Description

YORK SE6051NW PARLIAMENT STREET 1112-1/28/848 (North East side) 24/06/83 No.44 (Formerly Listed as: PARLIAMENT STREET Nos.44, 45 AND 46 Curry's (No.44)) GV II Newspaper office, now shop. 1836-39, remodelled in late C20. By JB and W Atkinson for The Yorkshireman. Painted brick in Flemish bond, with timber eaves cornice, and slate roof with brick stack. EXTERIOR: 4-storey, 2-window front. First floor windows are arcaded round-headed sashes, with radial-glazed upper sashes, painted brick sills and moulded impost band, arched over window heads. On second floor, windows are 12-pane sashes with sill band; on third floor unequal 9-pane sashes with painted stone sills: all have flat arches. Broad frieze band beneath moulded cornice on heavy brackets. INTERIOR: not inspected. (City of York: RCHME: The Central Area: HMSO: 1981-: 174). Listing NGR: SE6042951792
