Summary

Listed as 45-6 Parliament Street. A house with shop built 1835-40, a two bay building, of four storeys. Built of painted brick, laid in Flemish bond, with a slate roof. Built as offices for the Yorkshireman in 1836, designed by J B and W Atkinson. The building is of four storeys and was originally of five bay, but only two now survive, the rest were demolished in the 1950s. The building has a 20th century shopfront.

Full Description

Newspaper office, now shop. 1836-39, remodelled in late C20. By JB and W Atkinson for The Yorkshireman. Painted brick in Flemish bond, with timber eaves cornice, and slate roof with brick stack.

EXTERIOR: 4-storey, 2-window front. First floor windows are arcaded round-headed sashes, with radial-glazed upper sashes, painted brick sills and moulded impost band, arched over window heads. On second floor, windows are 12-pane sashes with sill band; on third floor unequal 9-pane sashes with painted stone sills: all have flat arches. Broad frieze band beneath moulded cornice on heavy brackets.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
