Orange-grey brick in Flemish bond, rear in English garden-wall bond; timber shopfronts and modillion eaves cornice; slate roof with brick stacks. EXTERIOR: 3-storey 4-window front. Double shopfront framed in plain surround with broad fascia and dentilled cornice: plate glass windows flank panelled central passage door with overlight. Windows on first floor are 12-pane sashes with slender glazing bars, cambered brick arches and painted stone sill band; second floor windows are similar, with painted stone sills. Rear: 12-pane sash windows with sills. INTERIOR: of No.47: fine cantilevered staircase around oval well, from cellar to second floor, has turned stick balusters and serpentine handrail. At foot of stair, 4-panel door beneath bordered overlight opens on to through passage. Original back room has cast-iron range in plain fireplace; moulded ceiling cornice.
