The heritage significance of No. 47 Low Petergate is primarily derived from the architectural and historic interest of its physical fabric. This is principally embodied in the historic and evidential value of the fabric of the building as an example of a mid-19th shop and residential unit, in particular:
- The overall composition and design of the Low Petergate shop frontage
- The retained intelligibility of the internal layout
- The central cantilevered staircase
- The historic ranges on ground and basement floors (blocked in and revealed)
- Other fixtures and fittings of minor historic interest, such as skirting boards, cornice, sash windows,
window surround and paneling, and wooden door surrounds.
