Description

Evaluation in advance of development at Holgate Villa. Two trenches were dug revealing a buried Roman soil horizon overlying undisturbed natural geology. Trench 1 contined deep soil with Roman potery, however, this trench had been heavily disturbed by the excavation of walls, drainage and a sewer. Trench 2 contained a large ditch containing Roman pottery and an earlier pit. These features contained two disarticultated fragments of human bone.
