Description

A six-month program of groundwater monitoring was carried out between June and December 2020 to satisfy a planning condition imposed by City of York Council before groundworks could commence. This program was part of a larger archaeological evaluation which included trial trenching, borehole evaluation, assessment of environmental remains and the preparation of a deposit model for the site. Ten boreholes were drilled to 10m BGL, and a plastic standpipe with a 9m response zone installed in each. Water levels were recorded using the Rugged Troll 100™ transducers, corrected for barometric pressure changes using a BaroTroll™ and water quality recorded using the AquaProbe 2000 ™ sonde. Parameters measured were pH, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen and ORP (redox). Three sediment samples were analyzed by Geolabs for triaxial permeability, porosity, organic content and sulphate content.
