Description

Above the natural bolder clay the structure of the mound was in four layers consisting of clay and soil, including Roman pottery and dusturbed burials from the surrounding ditch and elsewhere. Under the original grouund surface there was a crouched burial in a stone cist, perhaps from the surrounding Roman cemetery but also a suggestion that it might have been a prehistoric burial from a rouond barrow. Accessioned in Yorkshire Museum; not found. Location of excavation unknown. NMR source: Virtual Catalogue Entry to support E.I.
