Archaeological deposits likely to date to the early post-medieval period were found close to the existing ground surface in all four trenches, generally within 0.10m - 0.30m. On the basis of information gleaned from previous works, medieval and Anglo-Scandinavian deposits some of which are waterlogged, are present below these. The bulk of these deposits in the north-eastern part of the site relate to domestic dwellings fronting on to Walmgate.
