Description

Medieval drain recorded in April 1984 following exploratory investigations of Yorkshire Museum drainage system. The stone lined drain was c.64m in length and 1m high. It ran in a slightly curving course with 2 sharp, near right angles, close to it's two ends. Construction details varied. Tentatively dated to the first half of the 14th century as part of refurbishment of the abbey. GIS points based on original deposit model seem to differ slightly from the line of the drain as marked on plans (see monument MYO5286 on GIS). Museum accession code: 1984.6 RCHME microfilm PRN: 4450. Parent record for deposit model points Sources: Interim : bulletin of the York Archaeological Trust 10.1/1984/13-18 York Archaeological Trust annual report /1983-1984/APPENDIX I Yorkshire Philosophical Society : annual reports /1984/43,58
