Description

Excavation of a lift pit in the North Annexe Building, watching brief of engineering pits on the northern side of the site. The lift pit was excavated to a depth of 1m BGL and revealed 19th century deposits associated with levelling the site. The extant buildings were shown to have caused significant disturbance to the ground. Disarticulated human bones indicated the presence of disturbed graves or graveyard deposits. The 13 enginering pits revealed a similar sequence with evidence for extensive post medieval dumping across the site.
