Description

York Archaeological Trust conducted an evaluation at Former Mecca Bingo, Fishergate. The work was undertaken for Olympian Homes informing a subsequent planning application for consideration by the City of York Council. Archaeological deposits were identified in situ in two trenches, and in three boreholes. These deposits consisted of probable medieval soils and a possible Roman cobbled surface. Also present were structural remains of the 1930s Rialto Cinema, which was demolished in 2001.
