Description

The survey comprised a Level 1 photographic survey prior to the demolition of three brick constructed buildings that occupy the site. This is the site of the former late 19th century Foss Islands branch line railway and associated buildings including a large warehouse. The building recording investigation revealed a phase of building likely related to the railway that possibly served as a ticket office, waiting rooms and station master’s house. Very little of the original character of the interior of the former station building was noted. The large warehouse was seen to have had two phases of construction. A direct sequence of phasing between the former station and warehouse could not be established other than the fact that both were constructed during a short period between the publications of the 1852 and 1891 Ordnance Survey maps.
