Description

On 15th June 2022 York Archaeological Trust conducted a photographic survey of the churchyard wall at St Saviour’s Church, St Saviourgate, which was followed by the excavation of three pier footings at the same site on the 22nd to 25th of July 2022 and the 23rd of August as part of a programme of repair for the wall. The works involved the description and photographic recording of the boundary wall between St Saviour’s churchyard and a plot of land to the south-east of the church off Hungate. Following this, the excavation and recording of three trenches for the placement of pier footings was carried out. Further works associated with the installation of a manhole and culvert in 2024 were also monitored. Any archaeology encountered was excavated and recorded.
