Full Description
Ice house. Probably late C18. Exposed red brick in stretcher bond. Circular domed chamber approximately 4 metres in diameter approached by tunnel-vaulted passage partly sunk into city wall rampart.

Icehouse, behind The Bay Horse, set into the rampart of the City Wall, was constructed probably at the beginning of the 19th century. It consists of a circular domed chamber 12½ ft. in diameter, entered by a passage 7 ft. long and formerly vaulted, all in brickwork except for a stone cornice over the entrance.
