Building record MYO1523 - THE LODGE

Summary

House, now bank and shop. Late C17 or early C18. It was altered in the late 18th century when an upper storey was added. It is now used as a bank. It is faced with engraved stucco. The building has 3 storeys with stone pilasters at the sides. The roof is of slate, with dentilled eaves. The fenestration includes a shallow bow window at either side with a plain sash window between at 1st storey; 5 renewed sash windows to upper storey without glazing bars.There is a central pilastered doorcase with entablature and heavy cornice. The interior retains good original staircase. Brick, with painted render at the front. Slate roof. 3 storeys. Attached photographs and sketch are derived from the 2018 Acomb Buildings Survey.

Full Description

House, now bank and shop. Late C17 or early C18 with late C18 alterations. Brick, with painted render at the front. Slate roof. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys. 3 principal bays, but with 5 windows on the 2nd floor. To each side of the facade there are pilaster strips with channelled rustication. The outer bays have 2-storey tripartite bowed glazing bar sashes with plain cornices. To the left on the ground floor there is an additional window with a glazing bar sash and with a stucco lintel with keystone. The central bay has a similar window at 1st floor level. The 2nd floor windows are sashed without glazing bars. Modillion gutter cornice. To each side of the facade there are lead rainwater hoppers and downpipes. Gable chimneys. INTERIOR: not inspected. RCHM records original staircase with turned balusters, square newels and moulded handrail. (RCHME: City of York: South-west of the Ouse: HMSO: 1972-: 113).
