Monument record MYO5031 - River Ouse Navigation

Summary

In 1462 the city of York was granted responsibility for the River Ouse and the first navigation works were started, which led to the river navigation reaching Swale Nab and beyond. The Ure, which together with the Swale, forms the Ouse, was made navigable to Ripon by an Act of 1767, the last two miles of this route being canal.
