The barn buildings are single storey, constructed in an English Garden bond with red brick. Two of the buildings have pan tiled roofs and one an asbestos roof – almost certainly a later alteration to the building. The barn was subjected to a light recording in 2021 ahead of conversion. The barn was used during the latter half of the 20th century as a studio for the sculptor and teacher Austin Andrew Wright 1911 - 1997. Austin Wright was a key figure in the sculpture movement during the 1940s and onwards along with contemporaries such as Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth, with notable works as the 1957 prize winning 'The Argument', 'Ring' and 'Mute 2'. His work can be seen at Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
