Abstract/Summary

An archaeological excavation was undertaken beneath the floor of a former cellar located in Purey Cust, Precentors Court, York. The excavations were carried out in advance of the cellar being converted to form a new dwelling. The archaeological work revealed part of a Roman barrack block building that appeared to have been retained in use until the 9th century.
