An archaeological evaluation was carried out by On-Site Archaeology at Novotel, Fewster Way, York. This comprised the excavation of two trenches. The trenches were located within the footprints of extensions to the existing hotel. The evaluation was carried out in response to a condition attached to a grant of planning permission for redevelopment of the site. Both of the trenches revealed sequences of recent made ground to a depth of 2m below the modern ground surface. Any groundworks undertaken for the proposed development that are within this 2m depth will have no impact upon archaeological deposits.
