Title The Chantry, Bishopthorpe
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2020

Abstract/Summary

The assessment has been used to help inform the development of revised proposals for the creation of a swimming pool, glazed link, garaging, replacement tennis court enclosure and summer house following the refusal of application 19/01952/FUL. It is also intended to support an ensuing application for Listed Building Consent and Planning Permission. This report assesses the heritage impact of the proposed development upon designated, above ground heritage assets including The Chantry and Bishopthorpe Conservation Area. Documentary materials, planning history, historic mapping and archival resources were all consulted in order to provide a summary of the historical development and significance of the site. This report finds that, given the quality and siting of the proposed extension, there will be minimal impact on historic fabric, the setting of any listed building or the character of the Conservation Area . As such recommendation is given for the approval of the proposed application.
