Source/Archive record SYO2613 - GPR Survey in the Grounds of York Minster

Title GPR Survey in the Grounds of York Minster
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2020

Abstract/Summary

To the south of the Minster both antennae located features that area aligned with the Roman structures from a a very shallow depth as well as structures at lower levels on slightly different alignment. To the north of the Minster the features that align with the excavated barracks are clearly visible from a shallow depth, and continue to the full depth of the survey with possible evidence for an underlying drain. The sample areas are too limited to sustain a fuller interpretative discussion and it is seems clear that some of the shallower features relate to the backfill of earlier excavations. However, the results do confirm that GPR survey is able to map features in this part of York to a sufficient depth to justify more extensive survey.
