Monument record MYO4694 - YORK CITY WALLS between Walmgate Bar and Fishergate Bar (Chainage 2900-3250)

Summary

This section of wall includes Fishergate Bar, which was blocked up for a very long period after damage at the end of the 16th century. There appear to be many records relating to expenditure on this stretch of wall, one relating to the rebuilding of a stretch funded by the local benefactor Sir William Todd. The Bar was reopened in the 19th century, but is currently only open to pedestrians and cyclists - the paving scheme here was introduced in 2015.
